official bio
Owner and Founder of Cindy Novelo Music, Wellbeing & Yoga, Cindy Novelo is a certified mindfulness meditation (MMTCP), Awakening Joy® and yoga (E-RYT200/YACEP) teacher who also tours nationally as a professional singer/songwriter. In addition to weekly in-person and virtual yoga classes, she offers courses, workshops, performances, women’s retreats, individual mentoring/coaching, and keynotes which allow people to awaken to deeper peace, joy and happiness in their lives and to discover the wondrous beauty of this sacred life we are living.
An ovarian cancer survivor, Cindy is dedicated to helping others become their most radiant and vibrant selves by assisting them in learning how to truly care for their whole selves — body, mind and soul — and to see the beauty, grace and magic in every moment — even in times of challenge. In all her work, Cindy strives to assist others in deepening their own spiritual and creative journeys. It is her deepest desire to help the world find healing through the unveiling of the heart and the letting go of the things that divide.
A native of Lawrence, KS, Cindy grew up on-stage, both as a dancer and as a musician. She lived overseas for 17 years, continuing to perform, and then worked for several years in the field of international education before returning to professional music performance in 2009. Her international experience has broadened her worldview and influenced her music and spiritual understanding. Cindy has performed and/or facilitated workshops and retreats across the U.S., in Europe and Latin America.
In addition to her life-long dedication to music, Cindy is a devoted yoga, mindfulness and meditation teacher with a particular interest in mindfulness and compassion practices, with an emphasis on the too often over-looked and deeply healing practice of self-compassion. She has been teaching yoga since 2005 and mindfulness meditation since 2018.
Cindy is the creator of multiple original ‘Seeing the Good’ mindfulness courses which assist people in seeing the beauty and wonder of the world around and within them. She has been a facilitator for Tara Brach’s Wednesday evening Mindful Dialogue group since 2020. Her primary teachers include Tara Brach, Jack Kornfield, Paige Britt and Joslyn Hitter, among others. She has also been deeply influenced by the work of Thich Nhat Hanh and Sharon Salzberg.
Cindy’s yoga teaching experience includes authoring a unique 3-credit-hour university level course entitled “The Ancient Art of Yoga: Postures, Philosophy and History.” Cindy received her yoga teacher certification from senior-level yoga instructor Christy Burnette (E-RYT 500) and Emily Darling (RYT 500) of Darling Yoga and has also studied extensively with author and yoga sutra expert Bhavani Maki, founder and director of Yoga Hanalei in Kauai, Hawaii.
Cindy’s healing journey has enhanced her creative expression and deepened her personal spiritual perspective. She is currently writing a book about her experience with cancer and cancer treatment entitled “How Can I Keep from Singing?” reflecting her unending gratitude for life and the abundant grace found within apparent misfortune.
